The original and real fighters, Dalit Panthers, was founded July 9 1972, and it raised the eyebrows of the various aspects of establishment, bourgeois and brahmanical. The golden jubilee of independence, 15 August, in 1971 was celebrated by the founders of the Dalit Panthers as a "Black Day" because it continued the exploitation of Dalits (all toiling people) on the caste and class basis. Most of the founders were path-breaking Marathi Dalit literary young people, aged 20-30. Though it went on changing and today the Dalit Panthers could be called a mockery of the old organization, though our old friend the founder the original Dalit Panthers, Namdeo Dhasal, leads it. Shramik Mukti Dal salutes the original vibrant and revolting Dalit Panthers and expects the emergence of a new Dalit Panther standing on the shoulders of the original.
