NAPM welcomes and invites you to the
9th Bi-ennial Convention
DEVELOPMENT & POLITICS : ALTERNATIVES
November 17 – 19, 2012
Salsabeel Green School, Kiraloor P.O., Thrisur, Kerala 680 601
Dear All,
Namaskar !
You are certainly aware of many struggles across the country that have raised development issues, challenging not just the impacts of development projects but the paradigm itself. Struggles for survival are, on one hand, asserting people's rights to the resources – land, water, forest, minerals... and on the other, demanding that the state undertake and facilitate, with people's initiative and contribution, harnessing of those resources, but with much care and caution. Equity, Justice, Sustainability and manageability are the values and principles which are to be bases for choice of technology, appropriate process and structure for the task as well as distribution of products, services and benefits. This is what brings forth an alternative way – not only technological but economic and political. Saving natural resources and ecosystems, protecting diversity of culture and nature, and adopting right kind of priorities in use of the resources, beyond a generation, is the goal.
The people's movements invariably see the constructive work on such "alternatives" in various sectors – agriculture, water, power, building and construction... to health and education as complementary to struggle. It is rather pertinent to bring synergies to these activities as necessary and simultaneously possible for bringing in a rooted change. Not just ambitious expectation from the State but an initiative with vision, responsibility and accountability by the society is what is tried to be attained.
Towards this end, NAPM during its 9th biennial national convention has planned to invite various organizations and individuals who have the required knowledge, skills and experience in promoting innovative technology and/or progress in any of the above fields.
