Release of Central Assistance of Rs. 21.42 Crore to Tamil Nadu Under Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana
New Delhi: September 28, 2010.
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has sanctioned an amount of Rs. 21,42,50,000/- (Rupees twenty one crore forty two lakh fifty thousand) as central assistance to the Government of Tamil Nadu under the Pilot Scheme of Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAGY).
The amount will be utilized for integrated development of selected 225 Scheduled Caste majority villages in two districts of Cuddalore and Tiruvarur in the State. A preliminary assistance of Rs. 1.3 crore was earlier released to the State in March this year.
The Pilot Scheme will be implemented in 168 villages in ten Blocks of Tiruvarur district. The Blocks are : Tiruvarur (21 villages), Thiruthuraipoondi (16 villages), Muthu Pettai (08 villages), Mannargudi (33 villages), Needamangalam (10 villages), Kottur (16 villages), Koradacheri (18 villages), Kudavasal (04 villages), Nannilam (16 villages) and Valangaiman (26 villages) . In Cuddalore district, the Scheme will be implemented in 57 villages in three Blocks which are : Kattumannarkoll (19 villages), Kumaratchi (18 villages and Keerapalayam (20 villages) .
The pilot scheme of PMAGY aims at the integrated development of one thousand villages where a majority of the population belongs to the scheduled castes, through a convergence and gap filling mechanism. The successful implementation of the Pilot Phase would pave the way for its successful execution in all the 44,000 Scheduled Caste majority villages of the country.
The pilot scheme has been taken up for implementation in five States of which four are Bihar, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu (225 villages in each state) and Assam (100 villages).
It may be recalled that the Centre has already released a sum of Rs. 55.54 crore to the States of Assam, Bihar and Rajasthan under the pilot phase of the PMAGY. The implementation of the Pilot Scheme was approved in March this year for integrated development of 1,000 villages in the country, each with more than 50% Scheduled Castes (SC) population.

Railway Revenue Earnings up by 5.81 Per Cent During the Period 11th – 20th September 2010
New Delhi: September 28, 2010.
The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during the period from 11th to 20th September 2010 were ` 2297.01 crore compared to ` 2170.90 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 5.81 per cent.
The total goods earnings have gone up from ` 1487.33 crore during the period from 11th to 10th September 2009 to ` 1497.63 crore during 11th September to 20th September 2010, showing an increase of 0.69 per cent. The total passenger revenue earnings during the period 11th to 20th September 2010 were ` 713.45 crore compared to ` 601.68 crore during the same period last year, reflecting an increase of 18.58 per cent. The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to ` 59.67 crore during this period compared to ` 62.60 crore during the same period last year, showing a decrease 4.68 per cent.
The total approximate number of passengers booked during the period 11th to 20th September 2010 were 232.22 million compared to 197.57 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 17.54 per cent. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during 11th to 20th September, 2010 were 127.59 million and 104.63 million compared to 106.47 million and 91.10 million during the same period last year, registering an increase of 19.84 per cent and 14.85 per cent respectively.
