'US fears Iran's defense capabilities'

Iran unveils the first domestically-made self-propelled wheeled Howitzer cannon on March 6, 2011.

In the wake of Iran's important breakthroughs in its defense sector, an Iranian lawmaker says the great achievements of the Islamic Republic in defense technologies have worried the United States.

"Iran's defensive power poses a danger for the US and the Zionist regime," a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) Mohammad Karami-Rad told Majlis news agency (ICANA) on Sunday.

"Despite opposition from Britain and certain countries that are not interested in Iran's progress, the Islamic Republic succeeded to achieve an advanced defense status while proving that sanctions have failed to work," he added.
To hell with what Britain thinks. They are only interested in promoting their own Imperial aspirations which quite clearly do not include the aspirations of the Arab world, Islam or Iran. William Gladys.
He emphasized that Iran is currently "equipped with state-of-the-art defense capabilities."

Karami-Rad noted that Iran's defense capabilities have enabled the country to enter "restricted zones" of the US and added that Iran has acquired know-hows in aerospace, nanotechnology, biotechnology, nuclear energy and digital sciences.

"Any country that has entered those five fields will turn into a regional and extra-regional power," he said.

He pointed out that Iran currently has the ability to meet its defense requirements and even export them to other countries.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi on Sunday unveiled the country's first domestically-made self-propelled wheeled 155mm Howitzer cannon which has been made "with the aim of increasing the mobility of the Armed Forces' artillery."

In January, Iran successfully test-fired surface-to-air mid-range Hawk missile and the Iranian Defense Ministry delivered new naval cruise missile systems to the Navy.

The systems, designed and manufactured by Iranian experts, are capable of spotting and destroying different targets at sea.

The Navy has successfully test-fired a range of powerful missiles mounted with laser technology, which display high precision and have a range of 45 km (28 miles) to 300 km (186 miles).

In 2010, Iran inaugurated the production lines of the Seraj high-speed vessel and a new generation of the high-speed Zolfaghar. The Iranian vessel is capable of launching missiles, and sailing at a speed of 70 knots (82 mph).

Iran has repeatedly assured that its military might poses no threat to other countries, saying Tehran's defense doctrine is solely based on deterrence.
