palashbiswaskl@gmail.com | | Continued Human Rights Violations reported as Iran marks Anniversary of Revolution February 11, 2010, Los Angeles, CA - The Iranian American community has been anxiously following today's reports in the press and on social media according to which violence broke out in Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz, Mashhad and Ahvaz, and evidently, Tabriz, where massive state rallies marking the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution met with anti-government protests. While PAAIA's stated mission is focused on matters of U.S. domestic concern, as the voice of the Iranian American community, we continue to demand full respect for human rights, including the right to assembly and free expression, and condemn the violation of such rights wherever they may occur, especially in Iran. Iranian Americans Rally Behind Shiva Farivar February 10, 2010, Irvine, CA - Nearly fifty guests were in attendance at a private reception on February 2, 2010 in support of Shiva Farivar's candidacy for Irvine City Council. The event, which was held at the Caspian Restaurant, provided an opportunity for guests to meet with Farivar and learn about her bid to become the first Iranian American elected to public office in the City of Irvine. The evening began with a brief introduction and welcoming remarks by two-time mayor and current City of Irvine Councilmember Beth Krom, who praised Farivar's commitment to serving the best interests of all Irvine citizens. Click here to learn more PAAIA Hosts Capitol Hill Briefing on 2009 Survey of Iranian Americans February 11, 2009, Washington, D.C. – On January 28th, the Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA) held a congressional briefing to present the findings of its 2009 National Public Opinion Survey of Iranian Americans. The poll, conducted by Zogby International, explored the attitudes and views of Iranian Americans relating to recent developments in Iran following the disputed presidential elections held in June. The briefing, which was aimed at educating congressional staffers, was attended by individuals representing congressional offices, nongovernmental organizations, and the U.S. State Department.
