Dear friends,

We should be proud of what Dakshana Foundation is doing.  Out of 50 children they coached, 37 made the IIT-JEE list.  All 37 are from SC/ST category.  This is just phenomenal.  Please visit their website at: http://www.dakshana.org/ITJEE_2011_detail.pdf

Dakshana, using their tests, selects a limited number of students (after 10th std) from 600 JNV schools across India and provide intensive coaching in Hyderabad and Bangalore.  The students come from all over the country. The coaching is done while the students are in JNV school studying 11th and 12th standard.  So they don't lose any time.  JNV schools follow Central Syllabus and use English medium.  Students entering JNV schools are selected thru an exam among 5th std children.  They are fully residential & free, and teachers live on campus.  There is one JNV school in each district in India.  The JNV schools are run the Govt of India.

North South Foundation has just signed an MOU with the JNV schools to provide scholarships to the poor going to college and conduct educational contests among JNV children to encourage academic excellence.  God willing, we hope to show that JNV represents the IITs of middle to higher secondary education.  There are 300 to 400 thousand children in the JNV system, representing the cream of the young children in the entire country.

With regards,

About JNV schools - from Wikipedia:

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya known as JNV are Indian schools for talented children and form a part of the system of gifted education. The objectives of the scheme are to provide good quality modern education to the children predominantly from rural areas, without regard to their family's socio-economic condition.

They are located all over the country, except Tamil Nadu. There are approximately 593 JNVs across India as of 2010. They offer quality education to all students who get selected through the admission process which includes an All India Entrance Exam, held at district level. ...
