Our FRIEND and guide, the Marxist Minister and Poet from Tripura has written another poem and thsi time on Matua mobilisation after Chandal movement.
I am fortunate that he chose me to rang and recite the poem for dalit liberation.
In fact, he rang me twice today to tell that only the Ideology of Harichand and Guruchand along with Marxism and ambedkar ideology may help us to achieve SALVATION. While Manjul Thakur, the younger son of PR THAKUR despises Marxists as well as AMBEDKARITES.
The Present Matua fllowing belives in MYTHS and Legends of INCARNATION and pleads the movement as a RELIGIOUS one disassociating from its Legacy of Chandal Movement, the Untouchability Abolishment Movement, Indigo revolt, Tebhaga and Peasnt uprising in Bengal, GURUCHAND THAKUR, JOGENDRA NATH MANDAL, Mukund bihari Mallick and AMBEDKAR links, Guruchand`s contribution to the Fisrs time RESERVATION of 21 Scheduled castes right in 1909 in Bengal, the Demand of Charter addressed to BRITISH QUEEN by Guruchand Thakur and Mukund Bihari Mallick with the DEMAND of SEPARATE ELECTORATE for untouchables in India in 1911 even before the emergence of Dr BR Ambedkar in 1916 which was folowed up by constitution of SOUTH BORROUGH COMMISSION in 1919 and later SIMON Commission and the COMMUNAL AWARD!
Matuas disassociates from the tradition of COMPLETE Rejection of VEDIC RELIGION and retuals based on Brahaminical system and Untouchability based on GRADED caste system! The matuas have adopted VEDIC RELIGION, rituals and BRAHAMINICAL Psyche so the FORE Father of Harichand Thakur and Guruchand Thakur is being described a MAITHILI Brahamin rejecting the UNTOUCHABL CHANDAL Origin!
The matuas also reject the achievement of Guruchand Thakur to count the scheduled castes separately in 1911 census!
The AWAKIENING, Empowerment, ORGANISATION, Political power, Women and children welfare, land Reforms, education agenda, economic progrramme and so on , do not find any space in Matua priority since PR Thakur joined CONGRESS and OPPOSED DR AMBEDKAR.
Matuas suffer from DEMENTIA and this DEMENTIA is GLORIFIED by LEFT as well as RIGHT Politics! And it is never meant social Empowerment or awakening or Dalit liberation! All it means RELIGION which is followed by the Marxist Ministers as well!
Anilda faced heavy CRITICISM within the party while he wrote poems on MAYAWATI!
The Marxist minister from Tripura visted THAKUR Nagar on the day while Marxist minister fro West Bengal SUBHASH CHAKRABARTI visited the MATUA HOLY Place
The day when Manjul Thakur rejected the proposal of GOVT take over of the PILGRIMAGE management!
Former Union Disinvestment Minister Arun Shourie vsited KOLKATA Today and declared that the economic slowdown in India preceded global meltdown due to stoppage of reforms by the UPA Government!Shourie, who was the disinvestment minister during the BJP-led NDA regime, said the slowdown in India is seen in specific sectors like textiles where lakhs of jobs were lost. Shourie expressed fears that the fiscal deficit as a proportion to the GDP was likely to touch 13 per cent to 14 per cent in 2009-10.
It is peculiar coincidence that I have to write on the Ministers while talking about latest UPDATES from the Geo Politics as Lahore also witnessed a TERRORIST attack jsut after US president barrrack Obama decalred India, china and Iran to be the Partners in war Against TERROR and INDO US ZIONIST Strategic alliance and DEFENCE Deal realities are exposed very well.
Oil prices tumbled below $49 a barrel on Monday as unease about the economy - from Asia to America - raised doubts about the global appetite for energy.Benchmark crude for May delivery fell nearly 7 percent, or $3.48, to $48.90 on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
In London, Brent prices fell $3.53 to $48.45 a barrel on the ICE Futures exchange.
Gasoline futures plunged. Most energy-market analysts found no fundamental reason for a rally this month that pushed oil prices from $40 per barrel to more than $50. Crude inventories continue to build even with OPEC cutting production and domestic producers suspending oil projects.
Oil prices have moved higher as a spate of positive economic news heartened investors. Just last week, markets rallied behind word of a new plan to resolve the nation's banking crisis and a report that consumer spending rose in February for a second straight month.
The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries has promised to slash production by 4.2 million barrels per day, but analysts are at odds about the level of compliance by OPEC members.
JBC Energy in Vienna cited data from tanker-tracking agency Petrologistics showing that March crude oil production from 11 OPEC nations would total 25.9 million barrels a day, more than 1 million barrels higher than the group's implied output ceiling of 24.845 million barrels a day.
Comments Monday by Qatar's oil minister suggested OPEC members may be facing a new reality because of a widespread recession. Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah said he was ``OK'' with crude prices around $50 a barrel for 2009 and was ``trying to be more pragmatic'' regarding the global crisis and its effects on oil prices.
Just two weeks ago as OPEC ministers gathered in Vienna, Austria, there was still talk of $70 oil.
In other Nymex trading, gasoline for April delivery tumbled 9.7 cents to $1.3911 a gallon while heating oil slipped 7 cents to $1.3628 a gallon. Natural gas for May delivery fell 1.2 cents to $3.725 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Terror struck Lahore for the second time in a month on Monday when heavily armed gunmen stormed a police academy near Lahore killing at least 27 policemen in an eight-hour siege that ended with four terrorists being shot dead and six captured alive by security forces.
Clad in police uniform, the terrorists, numbering 10, attacked the academy at 7 a.m. and lobbed grenades and opened indiscriminate fire as trainees prepared for the morning drill, killing guards at the gate.
The audacious attack comes barely a month after the bus of the Sri Lankan cricket team was ambushed by terrorists on March 3 here leaving eight people dead. Six cricketers sustained injuries in the attack.
Mind you, First World war DEBTS and REPARATION charged to Germany and Protectionism introduced by USA followed by West caused the great recession in 1929. WESTERN countries including United Kingdom, Italy and France practiced APPEASEMENT policy for the NAZI HITLER hoping that Germany would STOP Export of communism to the West. Later Anti COMINTERN Movement created the AXIS of AGGRESSION with alliance of Germany, italy and Japan which led to World war TWO.
I have been writing that the IRAQ Afgan War, the OIL WAR has created the recent RECESSION associated with crisis in ZIONIST WAR Economies and Global Weapon Industry.
ARMS DEALS, kick backs , SWISS Bank Accounts and DEFENCE EXPENDITURE associated with AUTO SURGE and ENERGY CRISIS with oil dominated foreign policy relates directly to Indian Economy. FIIs control the FREEsenSEX and INDIA INCs, the shaping in ILLUMINITI desi formulates the ECONOMIC Policy backed by the BASTARDISED THINK TANK, Economists, RBI and FINMIN in accordance with Washington Dictates to ensure the worldwide ILLUMINITI ZIONIST interests!
Arun Shourie represents the ZIONIST THINK Tank!
Mind you, the Capitalist in either USA or the Europe, never faced CASH or CREDIT Crunch. Simply they did not INVEST at home. The Capital Diversion was the greatest cause of RECESSIOn as US and EUROPEAN capitalists invested in foreign land.
At present, India Incs enjoys exemptions in EXPORT and IMPORT duties, tax waivers, writing off the Loan, favourable Interest and rapo rates, cent percent FDI and entire Indian revenue is diverted to feed the KILLER Money Machine.
The Bail Out Money and the stakes of Indian tax payers tend to be INVESTED ELSEWHERE as India INCs goes GLOBAL with merger, launching, diversification and EXPANSION!
This is the COMPLETE Picture of REFORMS , Mr Shourie does plead and the TOILET Media as well as so called ECONOMISTS folow suit.
The People and the Politicians never COMPREHEND the IMPACT and allow the IMMORAL IMPOSTERS to kill the Constitution and the Parliament.
Blind nationalism associated with Fascism and Imperialism never allows SOVEREIGNITY and FREEDOM to EMERGE as Genuine ISSUES as issues related to Indian masses dilute in Majoritarian Electoral system, COMMUNALISM and CLUBBING of Caste to USTAIN Manusmriti Apartheid RULE.
With China-based hacker groups increasing their attacks on computer networks across the globe, Army on Monday said its information systems were "secure" and could not be "tampered" with.
"We have put in place a very secure network and I can confidently say that it cannot be tampered with," Army's Signal Officer-in-Chief Lieutenant General P Mohapatra told reporters in New Delhi.
Talking about the security features of the armed forces' network, he said, "Its exclusive, there are various cryptographic controls that we have put in place and there are training activities to ensure that no loss of information takes place."
Indian Marxists have got CONVENIENT Position in Post Modern ANTI COMINTERN campaign!
The former Disinvestment Minister has nothing to do either with the STARVING DYING Aborigina Indigenous Minority people or the INDIAN ECONOMY in Crisis!
Shourie never refers to the OIL EONOMY or DEFENCE DEALS and strategic realliance. He sticks to REFORMS as DR AMARTYA SEN and the Gangster economists and policy makers as well as the TOILET media deals with.
Reforms means DELETION of state interference and all kinds of REGULATION.
It means FREE and SOVEREIGN Market and the killingfields for the ENSLAVED Majority Population.
It means Globalisation, Privatisation and Disinvestment.
It means Retail chain, Modified SEEDS and EXESSES inuse of fertilisers associated with unwanted and baned DRUGS, CHEMICALS, PESTICIDES, Chemical and Biological warfare and experiments!
It menas SEZ, DEPORTATION,DEPLACEMENT, Chemical hubs, PCPIR ,NUCLEAR PARKS, REACTORS, MISSILES and BOMBS, POLLUTION and Mass DESTRUCTION!
It means the violation and manipulation of Labour laws, Coast Line SECURITY act, forest act, environment Act, land Acquisition act and INDIAN PENAL CODE as well as indian constitution!
It means DEINDUSTRIALISATION and destruction of Indigenous Production system and Livelihhod!
It means RIVERLINK plan and Diwali for Builders, promoters, Mncs and REALTY sector engaged in the so called development of BIG DAMS and projects and INFRASTRUCTURE!
It means large scale JOB LOSS, DELETION of Reservation and Quota, Unemployment, retrenchment, Hire and Fire, Privatisation of social services like HEALTH and EDUCATION, RLY and POST, BANKING and Insurance!
It means COMPLETE Manusmriti RULE!
It means Complete APARTHEID associated with MASSACRES and ETHNIC cleansing!
It means EXCOMMUNICATION, EXTURMINATION, Repression, Merciless CRUSH, ENSLAVEMENT and SUBORDINATION Unconditional, Post modern UNTOUCHIBILITY!
It means fascism sustained with BLIND nationalism!
It means IMMINENT RISKS of WAR and CIVIL WAR, Subvertion and TERROR STRIKES, SECURITY THREAT to National Unity and Integrity.
It means DECULTURALISATION, Murder of Motehr languages, Folk and Folklore, DEFACING nationalities and Identities!
On the other hand, our Marxist Friends created the DISINVESTMENT Ministry IMMUNE to Judicial Jurisdiction, Immune to criminal Investigation and Immune to Parliamentary procedure. The STRATEGIES and the List of the PSUs to be disinvested were finalised by the UPA Government during 1997 to 98 in accordance with Common Minimum progrramme!
Subhash Chakrabarti visited the Matua Mela BARUNI with all POLITICAL, PARTY and STATE SHOWCASE with adequate SECURITY and the Piolet convoy to irritate enough the Matuas no less than twenty lac on the day.
Anilda informed me that his visit was quite RELIGIOUS and he participated in the MATUA FESTIVAL and it has nothing to do with the LOKSABHA Polls.
I know well the RELIGION followed by the MARXISTS as well as the Rightists!
I complained that the state government has done nothing to support the Matua Movement which he considers Progressive and Revolutionary!
I told him about the cahos and mismanagement.
Anilda wished to visit once again and asked me to accompany.
I suggested that we should visit the place some time after the elections.
In the afternoon, the Minister recited his latest poem on Matua movement hoisting the RED FLAG of the matuas and beating the drum, the DANKA!
Then, he informed me that latest CD on his selected DALIT Poems has been released.
I congratulated the minister and asured him that I would collect one.
Then, he informed me that the famous Actor, the BELOVED of SATYAJIT RAY, SOUMITRA Chatterjee has recited the poems.
It is also nothing new as BRATATI Badopadhyaya and a host of Bengali icons have done the same thing before.
But I am surprised to note that CHATTERJEE has been always standing UNITED with BRAN BUDDHA and Marxist CAPITALIST ways defying the Resisting CIVIL SOCIETY. How may such a person VOICE Dalit liberation!
Then Anilda informed me that the POLLUTED Kamana Sagar has been surveyed by his officers and he will take care to PURIFY the water.
Anilda assured me to write a leter to the Chief Minister suggesting PROPOSALS of establishing a GIRLS` Highschool and making INDOOR as well as OUT DOOR AUDOtariums!
I am sure he will succeed!
Where do we stand?
"The seeds of slowdown in the country were sown since April 2008 while the global meltdown started since September," Shourie said at an interactive session organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce.Soon India's sovereign ratings would become negative, Shourie said.
"This is because the UPA Government did not continue with the reform process," Shourie said.
He added there was no fiscal headroom which was needed for great stimulus package to boost the economy.
Asked what kind of stimuli was required for the economy, he said the companies and states should be rewarded for big infrastructure projects.
India on Monday expressed deep concern over the terrorist attack in Lahore, but refused to draw a parallel between the incident and the Mumbai attacks.
"We are deeply concerned. We condemn these terrorist attacks. We condemn all terrorist attacks," Home Minister P Chidambaram told reporters when asked to comment on terrorists storming a police training centre near Lahore.
He said New Delhi offers sympathy to the government and the people of Pakistan.
Asked whether he saw any parallel between the Lahore incident and the Mumbai attacks, he said there could be no parallel.
"But, the commonality is these are terrorist attacks. The difference is that in Mumbai the source of terrorist attack was Pakistani soil. In the case of (Lahore) attack we do not know who is behind it," he said.
Condemning the deadly attack, Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma said the incident showed that the terror infrastructure in Pakistan was growing.
Pakistan will have to continue dismantling the terror infrastructure on its soil which is a threat to several countries, he said.
The DISINVESTMENT commissions as well as Prime Minister`s council for DISINVESTMENT recommended Immediate PAY HIKE for PSU official for executing the plan for DISINVESTMENT, Strategic sale, Joint venture with public sector and Lock out! The Policy is followed till this date even after the departure of NDA GOVERNMENT and the DISINVESTMENT MInister!
About four lakh officers of central public sector enterprises will benefit from a government decision giving them a further increase in salary and allowances, over and above the hikes announced last year.
The decision to improve the salary structure of officers at board level and below, along with supervisory staff, was taken at the Cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The improved pay packages will also include increase in house rent allowance and retirement benefits.
The decisions are based on the recommendations of the committee of ministers headed by Home Minister P Chidambaram, which went into the revised salary and allowances notified earlier in November last year by the government.
PSU officers, particularly in the oil sector, forced the government to revisit their revised pay scales when they went on strike in January this year.
Briefing reporters after the Cabinet meeting, Chidambaram said the revision in the pay structure would vary from company to company.
Meanwhile,Equities fell 4.8 per cent on Monday in the their biggest one-day drop in almost three months as investors took profits after the market had rallied more than a fifth over three weeks. The close of the quarter and fiscal year on Tuesday also encouraged fund managers to book profits, while sentiment across Asia and Europe was soured by the US government's rejection of turnaround plans for GM and Chrysler.
Financial stocks, which had powered the surge in the past week, led the fall with HDFC Bank, State Bank of India and ICICI Bank sliding 5 to 12 per cent.
Energy giant Reliance Industries, which has the biggest weight on the main index, dropped 2.1 per cent to 1,515.70 rupees after its market value jumped by almost a third over the past three weeks.
"The international scenario that was turning better is now called into question, so we can see some more unwinding," V.K. Sharma, head of research at Anagram Stock Broking, said.
The 30-share BSE index shed 4.78 per cent, or 480.35 points, to 9,568.14, its biggest drop since Jan. 7, when it fell 7.3 per cent on news of a fraud at Satyam Computer.
Twenty-eight of its components fell while in the broader market, losers led gainers in the ratio of more than 1.5:1 on light volume of 295 million shares.
"This correction has been very sharp. So we can expect this to be more than just a normal one," Sharma said.
Investors are wary as India's economy is slowing and there is uncertainty on the political front ahead of general elections in April and May, analysts said.
Policy advisers have said the Indian economy will fare significantly worse in 2009 than in the previous year, and more doses of fiscal and monetary policy may be needed to boost demand and lift growth.
The initial euphoria about the global economy being on the mend is also subsiding, traders said.
Shares are expected to trade within a broad range over the next few weeks, before the quarterly earnings season kicks off in mid-April.
Private-sector lender ICICI Bank fell 12.3 per cent to 337.95 rupees, its worst drop in more than five months.
Rival HDFC Bank slid 5.2 per cent to 945 rupees, while government-run State Bank of India dropped 9.2 per cent to 1,022 rupees.
The banking sector index, which had risen 19.1 per cent last week in its best performance since at least June 2003, dropped 8.6 per cent.
Top mortgage lender Housing Development Finance Corp shed 8.7 per cent to 1,450.55 rupees.
The 50-share NSE index fell 4.2 per cent to 2,978.15.
Asian shares slumped after a US task force took a hard line on aid for automakers General Motors and Chrysler, threatening bankruptcy for both. The news also pulled S&P stock futures and European shares lower.
Indian employers account for just 11.9 per cent of the total H-1B visas issued in 2008 and their share has been declining over the
years, a US think-tank has said days after new curbs were announced on such visas.
H-1B visas are temporary visas that allow foreign nationals to work in the United States on short-term projects or as a prelude to a green card, which entitles resident status to a foreigner.
"Though there is a prevalent assertion that Indian employers use up 'most' or '80 per cent' of the annual quota (of H-1Bs), USCIS data reveal that such companies utilised only 11.9 per cent of the 2008 new H-1B petitions issued," the National Foundation for American Policy said in a report.
An analysis of H1-B visa data provided by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) shows that the use of H-1Bs by Indian companies declined by 27 per cent from 2006 to 2008, the report added.
"The 12,180 new H-1B visa holders hired by Indian companies in 2008 represented 0.0083 percent of the US labour force, less than 1/100th of 1 per cent, a small proportion by any reasonable definition," NFAP added.
The report further added liberalising H-1B and green card quotas would help American companies innovate and create more jobs in the United States. It is the current restrictions that are inflicting real harm on the country and new restrictions will only increase the damage.
Indian firms have been conspicuous among top 10 users of H-1Bs, but they represent only a fraction of total H-1B use.
"Identifying 26 India-based firms and even including Cognizant, an American company with many employees in India, one finds Indian companies utilised 11.9 per cent, or 12,810 of the 107,686 new H-1B petitions issued in FY 2008," the National Foundation for American Policy said.
Though there are arguments that H-1B professionals overwhelm the American workforce, these reports are not supported by logic or the facts. The number of new H-1B visa holders in the United States accounted for 0.07 per cent of the US labour force in 2008.
Besides, almost all firms that utilise H-1B visa have US workers accounting for 85 per cent to 99 per cent of their workforce. Any business with more than 15 per cent of their workforce on H-1B visas is considered 'H-1B dependent' under the law and must adhere to a stricter set of labour rules.
Earlier this month, the USCIS had announced changes in the application form related to H-1B visa, in view of the restrictions imposed in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which prohibits hiring of people with H-1B visas by companies receiving federal aid money.
The current annual level of H-1Bs is about the same level as in 1990, even though the US GDP has risen 64 per cent (from USD 8.5 trillion to USD 14 trillion) over the past 19 years, while the demand for skilled labour has also risen

[edit] Early life and background
Arun Shourie was born to consumer rights activist, H. D. Shourie. His sister is, journalist, Nalini Singh.
He studied at Modern School, Barakhamba and St. Stephen's in Delhi. He obtained his doctorate in Economics from Syracuse University in the United States.
[edit] Career
In a series of exposés, many of which he wrote himself, Shourie and the Indian Express uncovered corruption in the highest echelons of the government and exposed several major scandals, including what has been dubbed “India’s Watergate.”
Shourie started a one-man crusade in 1981 against Abdul Rehman Antulay, the chief minister of Maharashtra State, who allegedly extorted millions of dollars from businesses dependent on state resources and put the money in a private trust named after Indira Gandhi. The story caused the eventual resignation of the chief minister , the highest-ranking official in India ever forced from office by newspaper reporting, and great embarrassment to Gandhi and her ruling Congress Party.
Shourie's exposés resulted in a prolonged labour dispute at the Bombay offices of the Indian Express, where a labour organizer with ties to Antulay encouraged workers to strike for a minimum wage double than what was paid at any other newspaper in India. It also resulted in a government crackdown that included a host of legal cases launched against the Indian Express by various agencies. In 1982, the paper's owner Ramnath Goenka fired Shourie as a result of continued government pressure.
Between 1982 and 1986, Shourie wrote for various newspapers and magazines, at the same time as being General Secretary of the People's Union for Civil Liberties. He was appointed executive editor of the Times of India in 1986 but was lured back to the Indian Express by Goenka in 1987. Shourie launched an attack on then prime minister Rajiv Gandhi over the Bofors howitzer gun purchase scandal. This contributed to Gandhi's defeat in the subsequent parliamentary elections.
Among the many battles Shourie fought for press freedom, perhaps the most famous was his crusade against the government’s proposal in 1988 to introduce a defamation bill. It was widely perceived that the bill had been introduced with unusual speed in Parliament in an attempt to muzzle the Indian Express, and the entire media community joined Shourie and the Indian Express in condemning the move.
At one stage, there were 300 cases filed by the government against the Indian Express, and credit supply from banks was cut off. Shourie, however, continued his battle against government corruption until 1990, when differences on editorial policy forced him to resign from the Indian Express. The differences involved Shourie's opposition to the implementation of the Mandal Commission Report, that sought reservations in government jobs for Other Backward Classes (OBC), which were initiated by then Prime Minister V.P. Singh's government. After that, he devoted his energy to writing books and regular columns, which appeared in different languages in 30 newspapers across India.
Shourie is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He has been a member of the Rajya Sabha and also held the office of the Minister of Disinvestment, Communication and Information Technology in the Government of India under Atal Bihari Vajpayee's prime ministership. As Disinvestment Minister, he led the sale of Maruti, VSNL, Hindustan Zinc among others. His position as Minister was a controversial one, but he and his secretary Pradip Baijal are much respected for kick-starting what people believe was a best-in-class process. In a poll of India’s top 100 CEOs in February 2004 he was ranked the most outstanding minister of Mr.Vajpayee’s government.
In the year 2000, Shourie pledged the entire amount (Rs. 11.90 crore) of discretionary spending available to him under Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) to setting up of Bio-Sciences & Bio-engineering Department at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. In 2005, he displayed his commitment to the cause by again pledging Rs. 11 crore for developing a separate and well-equipped building for Environmental Sciences and Environmental Engineering at the institute.
[edit] Personal life
Shourie is married to Anita. They have a son who is physically challenged.
[edit] Publications
His writings have gained him a considerable following around the country, as well as several national and international honours. Among these are the Padma Bhushan, the Magsaysay Award, the Dadabhai Naoroji Award, the Astor Award, the K.S. Hegde Award and the International Editor of the Year Award and The Freedom to Publish Award.[citation needed]
In his book Worshipping False Gods, Shourie criticized B.R. Ambedkar, the leader of Dalits for alleged complicity with the British and lust for power and wealth.
In A Secular Agenda (1997, ISBN 81-900199-3-7), Shourie discusses various problems faced by India due to minority appeasement and pseudo-secularism practiced by the Indian politicians.[1] The book starts with a discourse on the definition of a nation. He cites examples of other nations in Europe to counter the arguments of people who do not consider India as one nation due to its different lanuguages and religions. He argues for a Common Civil Code in the book[1] and the abolition of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution. He also discusses the problem related to infiltration from Bangladesh and the inability of the Indian government to solve it.
Eminent Historians: Their Technology, Their Line, Their Fraud (1998, ISBN 81-900199-8-8) discusses the NCERT controversy in Indian politics and attacks Marxist historiography. Arun Shourie asserts that Marxist historians have controlled and misused important institutions like the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), the National Council of Educational Research Training (NCERT) and a large part of academia and the media. He criticizes well-known historians like Romila Thapar and Irfan Habib. Shourie argues that Marxist historians have white-washed the records of rulers like Mahmud of Ghazni and Aurangzeb. Shourie presents examples to further his argument of how many of these text books describe in great detail foreign personalities like Karl Marx or Stalin, while they often barely mention important figures of India or of the Indian states. Shourie writes that this is in contrast to Russian Marxist text books. The standard Soviet work "A History of India" (1973) is according to Shourie much more objective and truthful than the history books written by the Indian Marxists. The Arts and Humanities Citation Index contains only one citation, in which it is cited as an example of "reactionary orientalists' reaction against a perceived attack on Indian spiritual values". Financial discipline shd be next govt's priority: Shourie
24 Mar 2009, 0414 hrs IST, TNN
CHENNAI: Restoring financial discipline and reforming and liberalising higher technical education and defence production ought to be key elements of
the economic agenda of the next government at the Centre, former Union minister and BJP Rajya Sabha MP Arun Shourie said on Monday.
Addressing a meeting organised by the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Palkhivala foundation, Shourie flayed the UPA regime for financial mismanagement and slowing down key reforms. He listed restoration of financial discipline, infusing competitiveness among the higher technical manpower, liberalising defence production and upgrading technological capability as the main priorities that the next regime should focus on.
"The government has already squandered money on populist schemes and is left with no durable assets for providing any stimulus through infrastructure development," he said, elaborating on his charge that the Manmohan Singh government was guilty of financial indiscipline.
Instead of squandering funds in this way,, there should be awards to states for executing major projects on time, Shourie suggested.
Shourie also suggested giving a fillip to the use of environment-friendly energy by taking up the cause as a national mission. Solar energy, fast breeder reactor technology and clean coal were areas where the country should concentrate its scientific and technical manpower, he said.
He also spoke of a dream project' to abolish personal income tax and replace it with the concept of green taxation'. "Taxes should be fixed on products and processes based on their impact on the country's ecology. We can be a pioneer in green taxation and lower personal and corporate tax," Shourie said.

US stocks fall after GM, Chrysler plans are rejected
30 Mar 2009, 2128 hrs IST, AP
NEW YORK: Wall Street pulled back sharply on Monday from a three-week rally after the White House rejected turnaround plans from General Motors
Corp and Chrysler.
All the major indexes fell more than 2.5 percent, including the Dow Jones industrial average, which lost more than 225 points.
Fears of an automaker bankruptcy have been looming over investors for months, and the latest developments made the market even more uneasy about the industry. GM is getting 60 days worth of financing to restructure, while Chrysler is getting up to $6 billion and 30 days to complete a deal with Italian automaker Fiat. The Obama administration also replaced GM's CEO Rick Wagoner with the company's chief operating officer, Fritz Henderson.
``People knew there was going to be some astringent decisions made about the auto companies,'' said Dana Johnson, chief economist at Comerica Inc. ``But this was a little bit more aggressive government response than people were expecting.''
President Barack Obama is scheduled to make an official announcement at the White House at 11 a.m. Eastern time (1500 GMT).
Investors were also taking money out of the market ahead of economic numbers this week and first-quarter earnings in the weeks ahead, fearing that disappointing data would set the market back. Before Friday, the Dow had surged 21 percent over just 13 days in part because of economic and corporate reports that were starting to look more encouraging. But with the economy still deeply troubled, some analysts say the market may have gotten a bit ahead of itself.
In early morning trading, the Dow fell 226.76, or 2.9 percent, to 7,549.42. The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 24.86, or 3.1 percent, to 791.08, while the Nasdaq composite index fell 49.24, or 3.2 percent, to 1,495.96.
No major economic reports are scheduled for Monday, but data on employment, manufacturing, and the service sector are due later this week. Friday's March employment report is expected to show that U.S. employers shed more than 650,000 for the fourth straight month.
Investors will also be focusing on Thursday's meeting in London of G-20 leaders of industrialized and developing countries. The group is expected to increase financial regulation, but investors' hopes for a coordinated fiscal boost are waning. The Financial Times, citing a draft of the meeting's communique, reported that there are no specific plans for a fiscal stimulus package.
And bank worries continue to dog the market. Over the weekend, Spain was forced to bail out a bank for the first time since the financial crisis began. The Bank of Spain took control of a small savings bank and provided $12 billion in government funds to support it.
Bond prices were mostly higher. The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note, which moves opposite its price, fell to 2.70 percent from 2.76 percent late Friday. The yield on the three-month T-bill, considered one of the safest investments, rose to 0.13 percent from 0.12 percent.
