Subject: [DAAW] Direct Action News Updates

............ ....
A selection of recent direct action, and direct action related, events from the UK Indymedia newswire.
............ ....

1.) Kingsnorth construction firm invaded by climate activists!
2.) Report of Palestine action inside and outside M&S in Newcastle
3.) Shell security breached and work stopped in successful action at sea.
4.) Brian Haw - 8 years today in London's Parliament Square!
5.) 'Carnival Against the arms Trade' and Shut ITT' Court Case.
6.) The Colnbrook blockade - Stop Deportation network

1.) Kingsnorth construction firm invaded by climate activists!

5th June. One of the companies bidding for the contract to construct a new coal fired power station at Kingsnorth has been targeted by climate campaigners. Three people have locked on inside and two are up on a ledge outside having dropped a banner. For more information, interviews and photographs contact 07932 096677 or  press@climatecamp. org.uk

2.) Report of Palestine action inside and outside M&S in Newcastle

On 4th June campaigners targeted Marks and Spencer's Newcastle store with a series of actions intended to raise awareness of the company's links to Israel and build pressure for a total boycott, as part of the international Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement. Pickets continue weekly in Newcastle, Thursdays from 5-7pm on Northumberland St.

3.) Shell security breached and work stopped in successful action at sea.

On 2nd June, after the afternoon confrontation in Broadhaven Bay which resulted in one man's arrest and a couple hours of halted work, the Shell to Sea fleet of kayaks headed out on the water a 2d time around 6pm and 2 protesters managed to board one of the dredgers, climbing on to the neck of the crane, occupying it and halting work for 10 hours.

4.) Brian Haw - 8 years today in London's Parliament Square!

June 2nd is the 8th anniversary of Brian Haw's one-man protest in London's Parliament Square. Initially he was campaigning against the economic sanctions on Iraq and the bombing of the country by the US and UK. After 11 September 2001, he widened his focus, directing his messages of peace against the 'war on terror'. This protest, held 24 hours a day (and night) in all weathers is surely quite an achievement.

5.) 'Carnival Against the arms Trade' and Shut ITT' Court Cases

The first trial arising out of the 'Carnival Against the Arms Trade' ended with convictions last week (1st June). At the Carnival against the Arms Trade up to 800 activists marched to the EDO MBM/ITT arms factory in Moulsecoomb, Brighton, pushed through police cordons into the factory car park and smashed windows and the Managing Director's car.

6.) The Colnbrook blockade - Stop Deportation network

Six activists from the Stop Deportation network locked themselves together on 12th May, using glass and plastic arm tubes attached to heavy concrete barrels, blocking the entrance to Colnbrook detention centre near Heathrow, where some 45 of the deportees were being held. The blockade lasted for over four hours, after which three coaches carrying the deportees left for an undisclosed airport.
