Hague must learn from Iran history

Stop the War Coalition has condemned UK Foreign Secretary William Hague, saying the British Foreign Secretary has not learnt from Iran's history as he claimed the Arab Spring should not distract us from the threat of Iran.

Aiming to put in more EU sanctions against Iran, Hague published an article in the Guardian insisting that the western Powers have to mount pressure on Iran, as the Iranian government has planned to increase the production of enriched uranium.

"Iran has one civilian nuclear power station and is seeking to build more. All of these power stations need uranium enriched to about 3.5% for fuel. So plans to enrich any further rightly prompt questions," he said.

Hague also quoted a statement by Fereydoun Abbasi Davani, the current head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI). But he apparently failed to mention that his country gave existence to AEOI.

On August 19 1953, in a planned coup, the British and US governments ousted the elected Prime Minister of Iran, Mohamed Mossadeq, reinstalling Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the country's dictator who was managing the worst secret police force (SAVAK) organized by the aid of CIA and Mossad.

Shah had made himself completely subordinate to the UK and US authorities. In 1967, he established the country's first nuclear research centre in Tehran, which was controlled by the AEOI and prepared by the help of a US nuclear reactor.

The same years Shah had explicitly announced that he would obtain nuclear weapons, but shockingly there were no objections from The UK and US over the issue.

More than twenty nuclear reactors were prepared by the support of the Western powers in the 1970s. In 1975 Siemens AG, the German company offered a contract for the Bushehr nuclear plant. Those years "UK/US puppet in Persia loved uranium," SWC said.

Right after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the Iranian leader Ayatollah Khomeini closed the nuclear proliferation program, which was established by the help of the Western powers. Soon after the revolution Iran faced the UK-supported Iraq invasion, turned into an eight-year conflict, in which the Iraqi forces used chemical weapons, killing millions of people and wounding millions other.

"Reluctantly, the Iranian leadership restarted its nuclear programme.

"Mr. Hague doesn't say this, and the reason is clear. The UK government has overthrown a legitimate Iranian leader, installed a brutal dictator in his place, and helped him to establish a nuclear programme. Then, after the Iranians overthrew the dictator, it supported an invasion of Iran that prompted them to restart the nuclear programme they so disliked. During that time, the UK and US have committed numerous acts of aggression in the Middle East. For a UK government minister to call Iran a danger to the region, especially because of its nuclear programme, is staggeringly hypocritical," SWC also said.

The analysts are now wondering to know why William Hague, claiming to be the peace supporter in Middle East, is silent against the US and Israeli governments who own huge nuclear arsenals.

Hague is seeking to demonstrate that Iran desires to acquire nuclear weapons to bring disorder across the world. He "tells us that he wants to present this issue without the historical context that is so important; to scare us with stories of a demon in the East, and subvert the brighter image of the region that the Arab Spring is building. After all, you have to justify a huge military budget and multiple war-zones somehow," SWC stressed.
