The bishops from the Middle East gathered at a conference at the Vatican, passed a resolution demanding that Israel "end its occupation of Palestinian lands and stop using the Bible as justification for injustices perpetrated by the Palestinians." The conference, which lasted two weeks, was convened by Pope Benedict XVI to discuss the situation of Christians in the Middle East.
Catholics are a religious minority in the region, which each year is decreasing. Israel blames it on Muslim extremists, but the Catholics themselves, as it turned out, a different view. The bishops called on Israel to implement relevant UN resolutions and declared that "the Scripture can not be grounds for the return of Jews to Israel, the expulsion of the Palestinians and the occupation of Palestinian lands." "The rights to the" Promised Land "are not a privilege of the Jewish people. Christ abolished this right. Chosen People are no more" - said in a statement.
