KOLKATA NSG HUB INAUGURATED

After the Mumbai terror attacks on 26/11/2008, a need was felt to have the presence of NSG in metro cities for effective and quick response in countering such incidents. Thus, four regional hubs were sanctioned and are being raised and operationalised at Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata.
The Chief Secretary of West Bengal, Shri Ashok Mohan Chakraborti has operationalised the NSG hub in Kolkata today. The Director General, NSG, Shri N. P. S. AulaKh presented the scroll symbolising the operationalisation of the hub to Lt. Col. Genesh.
The hubs have been established at Marol (23 acres) in Mumbai, Nedunkundram (85 acres) in Chennai, Trimulghery (22 acres) in Hyderabad and Badu (20 acres) in Kolkata. Pre-fabricated and permanent structures are being constructed to station NSG commandos at these locations.
Speaking on the occasion, the DG, NSG Shri N.P.S Aulakh said that post 26/11, a need was felt to locate for a highly trained special force capable of undertaking missions for making a breakthrough and dominating a crisis situation at different centres. And, hence the central government sanctioned the four regional hubs of NSG. This will increase the influence and operational capabilities of the NSG as emergency responders. Shri Aulakh stressed that the NSG will continue to focus on synergizing efforts to comprehensibly structure, equip, train and motivate all commandos to full spectrum capability, to tackle all facets of terrorism challenging the nation.
