"Report Ties Dubious Iran Nuke Documents to Israel"

Gareth Porter has an interesting piece at Counterpunch this morning on influence by Israel to convince our government that Iran is working on a nuclear weapon.

This charge is accepted by our entire corporate media, just as they accepted the "weapons of mass destruction" lies leading to the slaughter of a million innocent Iraqis, and convinced a majority of citizens to support the illegal invasion.

Israel's allegations are in direct conflict with the CIA's evaluation, which has it that Iran shut down it's nuclear weapons program years ago.  Nobody on the planet has put forth any solid evidence that Iran is working on a nuclear weapon.

PUBLIC HEALTH CARE OPTION

Democrats are now saying there may be a public option for health care in the Obama plan.  Even Sen. Max Baucus, the Senate Finance Chairman, who is heavily financed by the Medical Mafia, says he is now for such an option.

Citizens must be on guard against a public program which takes all of the sick and leaves the healthy for the insurance companies, because it will be considered only to increase insurance company profits, and it will fail. Universal single-payer is the best idea at present, but corporate media will not allow it to be fairly considered, nor will corporate government.

Pravda was the communist party newspaper when the USSR existed, and one of the most influential newspapers in the world.  Today Pravda's top opinion story is about Obama's Arab speech, and we thought our readers might like to see a Russian viewpoint, which is pretty much mainstream world opinion on this, but very different from American corporate media's message that peace is just around the corner for Israel/Palestine and no stone is being left unturned in that effort  --Jack

US President Barack Obama arrived in the Middle East. He visited Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, although his visit to Egypt seems to be more important. Obama will deliver a landmark lecture at the Cairo University.
The key ideas of Obama's lecture are as follows. The United States must not teach foreign governments on how they should govern their nations. Instead, the USA must encourage the development of universal principles of democracy, such as freedom of speech and freedom of conscience. George W. Bush delivered a number of similar speeches and drove Iraq and Afghanistan into the Middle Ages.
"Democracy, rule of law, freedom of speech, freedom of religion -- those are not simply principles of the West to be hoisted on these countries, but rather what I believe to be universal principles that they can embrace and affirm as part of their national identity," he said.
To put it in a nutshell, Obama said that you were either with us or against us. Bush was also inspired with the noble goal of spreading democracy in the Arab world and in other regions.
Obama hopes to use these words in solving the Arab-Israeli conflict, although it is impossible, of course. The Muslim world is being rather skeptic about Obama's speech. His words may not meet his actions.
On May 28, Obama had a meeting with the President of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas and supported the idea to establish the independent Palestinian State. The US leader said the same at the meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who visited the White House a week before Abbas. However, Israel is not being enthusiastic about the idea .
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on the threshold of Obama's tour of the Middle East that the USA still supported the establishment of the Palestinian State .
Clinton said that the US administration would ask Arab states to take measures to strengthen their ties with Israel in order to improve the atmosphere of negotiations. She stated that the US administration wanted the construction of Jewish settlements on the West Bank of Jordan to end.
The Arabs are very sensitive to their enemies and friends. They feel them at a distance. Obama wants to be friends with Israel . He also wants to obtain even more friends in the Arab world. No one has been able to solve the crisis in the Middle East for decades. Obama's chances for that are pitiful. A speech at the Cairo University will not put the fire down.
